Student Blog Post #1: Fast Math Update

"Math Menu is like at a restaurant you look at a menu and then you chose and instead of food it is math. You don’t have to do it in order like at a restaurant and you don’t have to eat the food in order like every restaurant you go to. You can play activities and games with a partner."

RES has a MAKERSPACE!!!

Today our class visited our school's "Maker Space" which is a room dedicated to creative exploration and problem solving for all RES students of all age levels!  It was pretty fun to try our first challenge.  I asked the studens to design and build a structure as tall as possible with a controlled set of materials and a designated time limit.  I was very impressed at the way in which the students teamed up to meet this challenge.  Good discovery.....if at first you don't succeed....try, try again!  Needless to say, the kids are being given another opportunity to explore this task.....with a fresh and enlightened lense......so fun!...

EAT or be EATEN!

Today our class played a game called "Eat or be Eaten!"  Students tried to build food chains that were as long as possible, collecting bonus points for those that were 4 links or more! It was quite a challenge!  We'll try this one again for sure....here are some pics of the action!  Be sure to ask your student about it!

Our Class Ecosystem has begun!!!

Thank you to Malachai for helping to get our classroom ecosystem started!  Malachai brought in some plants and other organisms from his yard to start this project!  Thank you!

What fun!

At the end of a busy first short week of school, our 4th graders got a chance to go outside and have some laughs playing a tag game!  It was a great opportunity to see each other and enjoy the amazing sunshine and late summer fresh air!  Glorious!
I hope you're all having a terrific Labor Day Weekend!
