Another Purple Paw Award!

Great work, Malia!  You not only found out how many ribs a person has, but you showed the lungs and the spine in a pretty creative model!  On Monday our class will earn Open Gym Time!  Woo Hoo!  Keep up the good work!

The Sweet Spot

Today our class tested our Elastic Band Rollers by trying to find the "sweet spot" on a race track in the classroom!  We had to figure out just the right amount of winds to store just the right amount of energy to make the roller move forward but stop in the sweet spot!  Some of the rollers were better behaved than others, and like all true scientists, we had to have patience (and a little bit of humor, too!)  Some rollers went quite well, while others went in circles, did some "breakdancing", or just sat there... (wah, wah.....) :)

Science in Motion !

Our class has started its next science unit!  To begin....today we investigated energy and how things move.  What makes things move?  Electricity, food, fuel, and what else?  Cooking oil?  Sugar?  Chocolate????
How does a wind up toy work?  What gives it the energy to move forward, or bounce, or shuffle, or wiggle, or flip?  Kids were challenged to draw a cross section of the inside of one of the toys, showing how it worked......
It was a great day and amazing fun!

Our Classroom Puzzle

The puzzle is finished!  I'm so proud of the puzzlers in our class!  Finishing this puzzle represents some true dedication, follow-through, teamwork, and friendship....true right down to the last piece (which was missing until this morning! Great find, Ben!)
Well done, Kids!

The GeoBee is Coming to RES !!

During the week of January 16th, 4th graders will be participating in our Annual GeoBee.  The GeoBee is presented by the National Geographic Society and students in grades 4-8 all over the United States are invited to compete!  Our class will be given different opportunities to practice geography skills in school in order to prepare for this fun event, and the event will take place in our classrooms among the comfort of supportive classmates.  I've sent students some links in their emails that they can use to study and explore geography concepts and topics.  The GeoBee is intended to serve as a fun and inspiring opportunity for the students and serves as an exciting window into the world of geography and cultures.

Jump Rope for Heart at RES

Jump Rope for Heart is happening again this year at RES!!!  I'm organizing another event, and I'm inviting any interested 3rd and 4th graders to join me for 6 Wednesdays after school starting January 18th and culminating with a Jump Rope for Heart Celebration on February 22nd!  Details have been sent home with students as of Monday, January 2nd and I encourage kids to send back forms as soon as possible.  Space is limited, so let me know early if you want to join in the fun!  We'll be getting heart healthy, having fun, and helping to raise money to support the American Heart Association in it's fight against heart disease and stroke.  Our community has been a proud supporter of this organization for years, and we look forward to continuing this effort.

Happy New Year!!!

It's 2017 !!!!  I'm looking forward to seeing our class together again tomorrow!  I hope that you've all had a wonderful break and are ready to roll into some more amazing learning adventures!  Best to everyone for a great New Year! :)Mrs. B!
